Saving Lives of Women and Children
Health providers are not always equipped with the skills, tools and technologies to deliver high-quality maternal healthcare.
VecnaCares is the technology partner for Merck for Mothers' digital solution being developed in Kenya. The tool aims to guide clinical decisions in real time, giving health providers immediate support to manage labor and delivery care. The tool captures data on the care provider's diagnosis and treatment, allowing clinicians and managers to use automated data to inform quality improvements efforts at facility, district, and national levels.
Fighting Ebola with Digitized Records
In 2015, when Ebola spread throughout Liberia and Sierra Leone, VecnaCares' team jumped on a plane with tablets and the CliniPAK system. This solution was the first of its kind to digitize patient data collection in Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) and send it electronically to a central health information system. Prior to its use, clinicians in the wetzones documented patient acuity on paper that, considered contaminated, would later be burned. They then held their handwritten notes up to a window for staff outside the wetzone to transcribe manually.
The system not only reduced manual transcription errors, but also digitized records so the data might be used to improve future response efforts.
Nigeria's Efforts to Improve
Maternal Child Health
Nigeria has the world's second-highest death rate of children under five, a quarter of whom are newborns. In addition, 1 in 13 Nigerian women die in childbirth. Since 2013, VecnaCares has been working with Qualcomm Wireless Reach and a number of local partners to implement mobile technologies to capture patient medical information at the point of care and assist in the analysis and diagnosis of clinical conditions that lead to maternal and infant mortality.
